Pioneer Children

This was Madison's first year at Frontier Elementary. We are fortunate to live close enough that we don't get the bus from our house. So last summer we taught Madison how to ride her bike. At the beginning of the school year we rode bikes, but then it got too cold and we started walking to school. Yes it was in the snow and uphill both ways, just like I experienced as a kid. I can remember riding my bike with my brother Jon running along side me to school. I also remember the tears streaming down my face from the cold wind as I rode- such a difficult childhood!
Anyway, I love walking to school with the girls. It is a great time to talk with them and to watch them as they enjoy the outdoors. Allison is even old enough now that she will walk home after we drop Madison off at school. The other day I took a look at Kaitlyn's 'running' shoes that she bought with her birthday money in September...
From the top they look a bit scuffed like you might expect from a three-year-old. But pick them up and turn them over...
Boy this girl has walked A LOT of miles in these shoes! It makes my legs a little tired thinking of all the miles we have walked to school over the year.
